Mabble = To Wrap Up
Before we get into the serious and mundane--writing mechanics--I wanted to inject a little befuddling vocabulary. Hopefully sometime during your quests for environmental sustainability you can incorporate some personality into your writing to peak the interests and spark the motivations of your audience.
When writing about our environment, it is important that your writing effectively engages your audience. Simple errors in mechanics can distract the reader from the overall message of your text, and damage your professional image. During the revision of writing, make sure to pay attention to these simple, but important rules of writing mechanics.

Hopefully sometime during your quests for environmental sustainability you can incorporate some personality into your writing to peak the interests and spark the motivations of your audience.
When writing about our environment, it is important that your writing effectively engages your audience. Simple errors in mechanics can distract the reader from the overall message of your text, and damage your professional image. During the revision of writing, make sure to pay attention to these simple, but important rules of writing mechanics.
CAPITALIZATION
- Proper Nouns: name specific persons, places, things, concepts, or qualities
- First Words: first words in sentence, and the first word after a colon when the colon introduces an independent clause or a complete sentence(The meeting will address only one issue: What is the firm's role in environmental protection?)
- First Words: of a complete sentence in quotation marks (Peter Drucker said, "The most important thing in communication is to hear what isn't being said.")
- Specific Groups: names of ethnic groups, religions, and nationalities (Native American, Christianity, Mexican)
- Specific Places: political divisions (Collier County), geographical divisions(North America), do not capitalize geographic features unless they are part of a proper name(Great Smoky Mountains), north, south, east, and west are only capitalized when they refer to sections of the United States, not directions (I travel north when I relocate, but my family will remain the the South).
- Specific Institutions, Events, Concepts: names of institutions, organizations, and associations (U.S Department of Health and Human Services)

CL Oliva - Who's The Boss??
A few years ago, I overheard a conversation between two co-workers who were complaining about our boss.
"Manager X never asks us for any input but instead barks orders and talks down to us as though she is 'holding court'," complained Employee A.
"Our input doesn't matter. We are here to do a job. I just do what I am told while waiting for five o'clock to roll around," responded Employee B.
It was at that precise time that Employee C walked by and whispered "sounds like the Indians aren't too happy with their Chief."
That was the first time I had ever heard the analogy but not the last time I would refer to it. Over the years there have been many different instances, both in professional and academic settings, that have reminded me of Employee C's statement.
I knew that the underlying problem was the management style of this particular manager. As a result, her employees were losing faith and respect in their leader. At the same time, they were forgetting who was the boss.
Whether managing a team project or an entire staff, there are certain levels of understanding that must be adhered to in order to effectively get the job done. Regardless of the setting, if the core management principals are followed, the outcome will more than likely be a success.
By the way, I just happen to be one of those individuals who believe that a Chief is only as good as its Indians, and not the opposite............

Jordan K. Courteous Writing for a Courteous Environment
So recently I have come to realize how beautiful our environment is. I have also realize how much hard work it takes the few individuals that actually attempt to make a difference to succeed in doing so. While watching the Disney channel not long ago I saw they had a campaign going for being environmentally friendly. If everyone in the world saved a drop of water we could gather a small lake. So imagine what we could do if we all gave a valiant effort towards improving our environment.
The environmentalist that devote their lives to making the world around us a safer, "greener", world expend a lot of their time and energy doing so. Some of the work they do involve writing to people with higher authority. When they write to them these environmentalist need to be strong worded, persuasive and courteous. They need to convince their superiors to do what they themselves cant. In doing so they need to courteous, nobody will perform any type of task for you if they feel pressured or guilted into doing so. I have came across a video that shows some techniques in persuasive writing and another video in being courteous.
Watching these videos should give you a general idea of how to persuade people in a courteous way. Put these skills to good use and try to save our environment. Write a letter or e-mail to your landlord asking to better lawn care. Write to an environmentalist and thank them for what they are doing for the world. The world around you allows you to be who you are and to do what you do. Be kind to it.
