Jordan K. Courteous Writing for a Courteous Environment

So recently I have come to realize how beautiful our environment is. I have also realize how much hard work it takes the few individuals that actually attempt to make a difference to succeed in doing so. While watching the Disney channel not long ago I saw they had a campaign going for being environmentally friendly. If everyone in the world saved a drop of water we could gather a small lake. So imagine what we could do if we all gave a valiant effort towards improving our environment.

The environmentalist that devote their lives to making the world around us a safer, "greener", world expend a lot of their time and energy doing so. Some of the work they do involve writing to people with higher authority. When they write to them these environmentalist need to be strong worded, persuasive and courteous. They need to convince their superiors to do what they themselves cant. In doing so they need to courteous, nobody will perform any type of task for you if they feel pressured or guilted into doing so. I have came across a video that shows some techniques in persuasive writing and another video in being courteous.

Watching these videos should give you a general idea of how to persuade people in a courteous way. Put these skills to good use and try to save our environment. Write a letter or e-mail to your landlord asking to better lawn care. Write to an environmentalist and thank them for what they are doing for the world. The world around you allows you to be who you are and to do what you do. Be kind to it.

  2. Yes, it does pay to be nice. Even though you sometimes want to shake sense to people, or knock the ignorance out of them--the key to effective persuasion is courteousness. By the way--catchy title!

  3. As with other aspects of professional writing, courteousness is key. We can all attest to the fact that we've all been in different situations and each time we've said "if he/she would have just asked me nicely....."

There is a certain degree of tact that is interjected into writing in a courteous manner. Saying things "just right" or asking in a certain way enables us (as writers) to get the reader to do what it is that we want them to.

As we all know, there are times that we post to a blog or website and the message isn't accepted or doesn't come across as intended. The best way to ensure that this doesn't happen is to always re-read a message before sending while keeping the particular reader in mind. Will the reader receive the message the way that you want them to? Will it be offensive at all? This isn't always a practical approach but is a good rule to follow.

  5. Jordan,

You did a good job on completing this task by including about 150-200 words of text and doing not one, but two YouTube videos. Although, I would like for you to edit you text by rereading it and making sure you correct your punctuation and grammar. There are a few spotty places such as paragraph 2, line 9 where you say "I have came across...," and instead write, "I have come across..."
Also, please remember to comment on you team mate's posts to get all the necessary points to fulfill your blog requirements. It is too late for post 1, but please do not lose any more points on the next posts.

Otherwise, keep up the good work.

    Romina
